I've been reading Christianity for the Rest of Us by Diana Butler Bass. Every once in a while I pick up a book that makes me resonate with its truths. This is such a book. One of the Bass quotes I particularly like is this one. If emerging Christianity is, like its ancient ancestor, a faith of travelers, of pilgrims on a way, it should be no surprise that hospitality would, once again, find itself at the heart of Christian life. I have never seen a time more in need of hospitality than now. Real, honest hospitality. Coffee shops provide a substitute for the real deal. People meet for brief installments of friendship and intimacy. LifeSpring Church is working diligently to provide real hospitality. We eat together, belong to small groups, pray for each other, and work to create genuine relationships. It's hard work, but it's worth it. |
